As of March 17, 2026, Iran has allowed at least five India-bound energy tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz since it began restricting the waterway in late February 2026.
While Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Fathali confirmed that “some” vessels have been granted passage as a “rare exception” to the blockade, Indian officials clarified there is no “blanket arrangement”; each ship’s movement is negotiated and authorized individually.
Status of India-Bound Tankers (as of March 17, 2026)
Vessels Passed Successfully:
Shivalik (LPG): Arrived at Mundra Port on Monday, March 16, carrying 46,000 tonnes of LPG from Qatar.
Nanda Devi (LPG): Scheduled to arrive at Kandla Port on Tuesday, March 17.
Jag Laadki (Crude Oil): Carrying ~81,000 tonnes of Murban crude; expected at Mundra Port on the afternoon of March 17.
Jag Prakash (Gasoline): Crossed the strait on Friday, March 13; currently en route to Tanga Port.
Shenlong (Crude Oil): A Suezmax tanker that arrived in Mumbai on March 12 after transiting the strait.
